Able to receive Freeview HD? Got yourself a nice new receiver? Good, now you can plan your high-def viewing direct from your iPhone via the Freeview HD app.
Launched today, the official Freeview iPhone app provides users with access to Freeview's 14-day electronic programming guide (EPG), allowing iPhone and iPod touch owners to "plan their TV viewing whilst on the go".
In addition to listing the schedule for Freeview's two current HD channels - BBC HD on channel number 50 an ITV HD on channel number 51 - the iPhone app provides listings for over 50 other Freeview channels and will soon include data for the upcoming HD service from Channel 4.
Although simplistic in appearance, the app makes use of a few useful features - including the ability to view "now and next" scheduling, a top 10 channel list, favourite channels - allowing you to skip right past the likes of Ideal World and Bid TV - and listings based on a user's local region.
Not a giant step forward for Freeview services by any means, but who knows, with the arrival of Freeview HD PVRs in the coming months, will we one day see the Freeview app replicate the functionality of the Sky+ app by allowing users to schedule remote recordings? We certainly wouldn't rule it out.
The Freeview app is available now at no cost from the iTunes store.
