Samsung has announced that "the era of live starts now," or in other words, it has released the Galaxy A80 in several world regions today. HEXUS reported upon the launch of the Galaxy A80 with its headlining triple auto-rotating camera array back in April, so it has taken Samsung almost three months to get stocks to retailers.

To recap on the attractions of the Samsung Galaxy A80, you can check out the official TV commercial embedded above, or watch some other official videos or hands-on and review videos from the likes of MrWhosetheBoss and GSM Arena.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 is a pioneering device for Samsung as it includes a number of firsts. Of course this is the first time we have seen this sliding mechanism with triple auto-rotating camera array. Moreover, the camera mechanism allows Samsung to eschew any type of notch or screen cut-out, and have really small bezels around the screen.

It is a very big screen too, at 6.7-inches and sports a Super AMOLED panel with FHD+ (1080×2400 pixels). Samsung says it is great for fully engaging in your favourite multimedia content and complemented by Dolby Atmos when using earphones or Bluetooth speakers. Last but not least the cut-out-less and notch-less screen features an under-display fingerprint reader.

Inside you get an Octa Core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.8GHz Hexa) processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,700mAh battery (which can fast charge using the 25W adaptor). Other important specs are that this phone offers; Android 9 Pie, with Bixby, Samsung Pay, and Always On Display content, connects to power and data using USB-C, supports up to LTE Cat 11, Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO and BT5. It is rather large at 165.2 x 76.5 x 9.3mm and weighs 220g. Samsung is making the Galaxy A80 available in black, white or gold.

The camera array is worth a closer look. The three camera modules include an 8MP ultra wide camera, a 48MP main camera, and a 3D depth camera (see diagram). Of course you use this same high quality array for regular shots and videos, as well as selfie captures. The camera offers a multitude of modes like night, panorama, live focus, hyperlapse and so on - and there's a scene optimiser that recognises 30 types of scenes.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 is available now in some regions. I've seen it is available now in India for example, and the European price is €649. In the UK specifically I have seen it for pre-order at £616, with stock expected from 19th July but perhaps the price will be a little lower when it becomes widely available.

Wow that looks fragile. Not that i'm the target market for such things (to old and too cheap) but isn't this just likely to jam the first bit of grime that makes it into the mechanism? I'd rather have a small bezel and more reliability and cheaper cost thanks.

And you are in the minority (say everybody tells me)

I guess you said it yourself. I'm not sure the criticism is valid given that Samsung has an enormous range of handsets at a number of price and spec levels. All you need to do is buy something other than this, which is super easy, Samsung or otherwise.

I'm right with you in not being their target market, but my reaction if I were would be the same, about grime, etc jamming it.

Now, where'd I leave my pipe and slippers?

Oh.

My slippers are on my feet, and I don't have a pipe.
Rules out any case, making it even more fragile. I like the design, but that's a steep price for an A-series sammy
