With all the recent fuss over Android updates (or rather the lack of them, for a range of critical vulnerabilities), perhaps Google Nexus devices with their timely updates will become more popular than ever. This time around it seems like Google is going to go beyond its one-size-fits-all Nexus trend and there will be a pair of devices to choose from; one from previous collaborator LG and another from Huawei. It would be good if one of these was a budget priced device, as we don't get Android One devices in the west.

Google's Nexus hardware range often gets updated in the autumn and if the leaks and rumours are correct it looks like LG will update its Nexus 5 (2013) with a new Nexus 5 (2015). At the same time we will be presented with a Nexus 6 (2015) manufactured by Huawei.

LG Google Nexus 5 (2015)

The new LG device is expected to be based upon a next gen Qualcomm chip like the Snapdragon 820 which is being produced on the FinFET 14nm or 16nm process. Qualcomm confirmed the existence of this chip yesterday when it revealed details about the GPU employed in the SoC. It will debut the Adreno 500 series of GPUs with higher performance and lower power demands plus the Spectra ISP camera system.

OnLeaks, on Twitter, asserts that the LG will come equipped with a 5.2-inch screen, framed in metal, and overall it measures roughly 146.9x72.9x8/9.8mm. The body size might seem large but this smartphone has a pair of front facing speakers to make room for. LG has implemented a finger print sensor on the back of the device and will equip a USB Type-C connector port, according to the Twitter source.

Huawei Nexus 6 (2015)

This device is expected to have a 5.7-inch screen. It will be metal bodied, says OnLeaks, measuring roughly 159.4x78.3x6.6/8.5mm overall. Like its LG relative it will employ a pair of front facing speakers, USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner.

According to earlier leaks the Huawei will also be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor and its large screen will offer a QHD resolution. Its camera is rumoured to use a 21-megapixel IMX230 sensor rear camera.

Both fingerprint scanners and USB Type-C are supported by features in Android M, the release of which is likely to coincide with the launch of these smartphones.

Yessss waiting for that Nexus 5
Looks good man.
9mm taller, 4mm wider and 1mm thicker. I can live with that. My guess would be a late October/early November release, like previous Nexus phones.
That new N5 looks good. Love my N5 - best phone I have owned hands down. Hope I have the cash for an early upgrade…
Needs microsd slot and good battery life or I'll be looking elsewhere.
