Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo Mobile is currently running a teaser campaign, on Weibo, for a 6-inch smartphone called the Vivo X6. This smartphone is touted to offer some very high end specs, which would make it rather interesting in its own right - combined with the usual cut-throat pricing of such Chinese mobiles. However rumours suggest the Vivo X6 will go further than what the official teasers have so far revealed, by becoming the first ever smartphone that is equipped with dedicated graphics memory.

Vivo's teaser campaign is currently ongoing, see above. So far it has confirmed that the new phablet will boast 4G connectivity, Hi-Fi sound, and 4GB of system RAM. According to various sources Vivo will release new members of its X5 smartphone family on 11th November and the X6 may also be fully unveiled at that launch event.

Vivo X6 key specs roundup

  • 6-inch Quad HD (2560x1440p) 'Force Touch' IPS display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 protection
  • 2.5GHz Deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • ARM Mali GPU
  • 1GB of dedicated graphics memory
  • 21MP main camera
  • Dedicated camera shutter button
  • Hi-Fi Audio
  • 4G connectivity
  • 4000mAh battery
  • Choice of 5 metal finishes
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop

The above would indeed be impressive specs. The teaser campaign is ongoing and hopefully we will get some more solid specs revealed over the next few days.

As this smartphone would be a pioneer in employing dedicated graphics RAM it's hard to know whether it would be of some measurable benefit, or simply just an exercise in marketing one-upmanship. The Helio X20 with its Tri-Cluster deca-CPU is due to launch in devices from December onwards. This 20nm SoC employs an unspecified ARM Mali GPU in its configuration.

I'm sure it just means that 1GB out of the 4GB is exclusively reserved for graphics use.

Unless the X20 has a dedicated graphics memory bus as well, but that seems unlikely in a mobile SoC that is presumably using LPDDR4.
According to the MediaTek site it's using dual channel LPDDR3 and a maximum of 4GB of RAM, so I think you're correct in your assumption.
Force touch…Apple will love that ;)
Gotta say the camera and flash look miniature, is that truly to scale?
If they also add to the spec “no bloatware included” or “all bloatware can be uninstalled” then I'd say it was a complete winner.
