Scary atmosphere, specs

HEXUS: Can you describe some of the creatures that we’ll encounter?
J.N:We prefer not to spoil too much of the creatures that you encounter since it is part of the experience of the game. We try to hide the creatures from the player in-game as well. Instead of showing off the dangerous creatures we try to hint of them instead to build up tension and make the player afraid of what lurks in the dark.

HEXUS: How do you manage to create and maintain a scary atmosphere? Is there a spooky soundtrack that accompanies the game or will there be more subtle noises to scare the living daylights out of us?
J.N:There is indeed a spooky soundtrack! Mikko Tarmia(http://www.mikkotarmia.com/) has been working with us since the tech demo and has so far created 22 tracks for Penumbra: Overture. For most of the levels he has created highly ambient music, with constant strain in them, giving a feeling of unease. In addition to this the levels also have their ambient sounds, the music and sounds are created with each other in mind as an effort making them blend together in one solid soundscape.

HEXUS: Which past horror games have inspired the development team?
J.N:Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Call of Cthulhu could be considered the biggest inspirations.

HEXUS: Do you have a list of the recommended/minimum specs required to play Penumbra: Overture?
J.N:They will be something like this, please keep in mind that this might change.

Recommended:
2 Ghz CPU
1 GB RAM
GeForce 5600FX/Radeon X1600

Minimum:
1.5 Ghz CPU
512 MB RAM
GeForce 3 / Radeon 8500

HEXUS: Are there any plans to port it over to consoles?
J.N:At the moment there are no plans for any ports to consoles. The game is ported to Linux and the Mac OS X version is close to playable at the moment.

HEXUS:Last but not least, when will we be able to buy Penumbra/Overture?
J.N: The later part of quarter one 2007.

HEXUS:Many thanks for taking to time to speak with us.
J.N: Thank you!
