Split-screen multiplayer mayhem

HEXUS: Any new multiplayer game modes you can tell us about and maps?
Dawn: Obviously, we’ve got the original game modes like Golden Gun Mode and Conflict, but we’ve also got objective modes like GoldenEye mode, with both teams vying for control of the GoldenEye satellite. There are different control points where you can hack the console and gain control of the satellite. We’ve also got Black Box mode where one team is defending the black box and the other one is trying to destroy it.

With the maps we've got the likes of Archives and Facility along with the others, but they’re different layouts then the original. The levels back then were really small so we’ve re-purposed them for multiplayer and thrown in some new environments that aren’t in the single player experience.

HEXUS: Any new characters on the roster?
Dawn: All the original characters are here, such as Oddjob and Jaws, but we thought it would be cool to have more villains. So you can expect to see NPCs from the single player campaign. Online, in Classic Conflict for example, each person will be a different classic Bond villain. Heroes mode features two teams and one person is randomly chosen from the team to play as a lead character and they’ll have more health and can cause extra damage. Your team has to protect you but you also have to go after the hero of the other team.

HEXUS: The original GoldenEye 007 had plenty of bonus cheat options when you completed levels, such as the Paintball or DK mode? Is that the case this time around?
Dawn: Yes, but you can play them all immediately. All modes are playable from the outset via Split Screen. We know everyone wants to play split-screen and relive the multiplayer experience so we didn’t want people to have to unlock it all. You will, however, unlock the time trials feature once you complete the game.

GoldenEye 007 will feature a lineup of four-player split-screen MP options, including 40 total characters, 8 classic Bond characters, 5 maps, 3 standard modes and 16 special modifiers that allow gamers to create over 500 different game combinations. GoldenEye 007 also features online multiplayer for up to 8 players designed for seasoned FPS online gamers with unique modes and a robust XP system for unlockables and achievements.

Good read sounds like it could be fun, I remember playing the original.

One thing, slight spelling mistake: - HEXUS: What about weapons? Is the weapon set identical in the single player as it is in the multiplayer? And is there a upgrade system?
Dawn:It’s the same weapon set in both modes, but online you can rank up through the XP that you unlock and gain access tro different perks, such as steady aim or shooting from the hip which makes you more accurate. The weapons you have in single player aren't as developed the weapons online.
I've got mildly decent hopes for this game.
If it captures even a microgram of the essence from the original then that can only be a good thing.
I'm looking forward to the 4 player split screen multiplayer.
What a shame it's only on the Wii.
