Dixons announces pre-order service in response to demand for Sony PSP

Today, high street electrical retailer Dixons demonstrated its commitment to bringing its customers the latest technology first, by launching a pre-order service for one of the year's most hotly anticipated gadgets - the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP).

The Sony PSP is a step change in gaming - a handheld console which can play games to the quality of a PS2, plays music and movies, and stores photos. It takes mobile entertainment to the next level.

Already being hailed as the ultimate handheld games console, the PSP sold over 500,000 units during its first week in Japan. Demand has continued in Japan and the US with product flying off the shelves as fast as retailers can stock it. It is anticipated that PSP will launch in the UK towards the end of this summer.

Bryan Magrath, marketing director for Dixons, says: "The launch of the Nintendo DS earlier this year gave us a taste of just how much demand there is out there for these feature-packed, great value gaming products. We recognise our customers want to be the first in line to get their hands on this amazing product as soon as it is available, and urge them to sign up today for our new pre-order service to ensure they don't miss out."

Customers can register their pre-order by paying a £10 deposit in-store or ordering online at http://www.dixons.co.uk. The anticipated retail price for the PSP is expected to be c. £179.
