Who can we trust? Killzone 2 dev doctors PS3 screens

Too good to be true

There's a lot of suspicion surrounding the gaming industry at the moment, with the recent controversy involving videogame website Gamespot and publisher Eidos doing little to gain our trust of publishers and commercial gaming websites.

However, the latest controversial subject to hit the headlines involves Killzone 2 developers, Guerilla Games who last week released a number of stunning looking screenshots for their PS3-exclusive first person shooter.

This is just one of the screenshots, which looks almost too good to be true.

That's because it is untrue. It's been doctored.

Following an article on Kotaku ,which opened up a debate on the authenticity of a number of Killzone 2 screenshots,Guerilla Games has come forward to admit that they had tampered with the screenshot,

On the official PS3 forums , QA manager, Seb Downie posted:They are only the tiniest bit touched up. Short answer is yes. Long answer is that there was a little bit of colour-correction done and some minor polish, but nothing major. Still very close to reality and it looks better in motion in my opinion.

Admittedly, it's not the biggest crime in the world and I'm sure Guerilla Games aren't alone in their screenshot doctoring exploits, but nevertheless it doesn't exactly give me confidence in the game, and it automatically makes me think that any any game that looks 'too good to be true' probably is.

What next? Well, I'm sure we'll see an official Killzone 2 press release which states that it will redefine the first person shooter genre...yeah right.

Oh my, someone has doctored a screen shot, its the end of the world as we know it!!!!!

Come on, this has happened plenty of times before, so they cleaned it up a bit. So what?

I don't think it's so much a matter of images being doctored. Weren't the devs on this game picked on before for showcasing CGI clips that they claimed to be in-game? Something like that, I remember them having to make a statement later saying it was all animation.

I think this news item is making the rounds on the basis of their previous marketing of the game.
