Wearing sunglasses indoors is normally reserved for pop stars and prats, but come October everyone will have an excuse. The much anticipated *coughs* 3D Blu-ray update for the PlayStation 3 has been confirmed to launch within the next couple of months.

Revealed by Sony CEO Howard Stringer at a keynote speech at IFA in Berlin, where 3D was the main focus of the Sony press conference, a 3D firmware update will be implemented over the coming months allowing users to play 3D Blu-ray disks.

All you need now is a 3D-Ready TV and you'll be able to watch the likes of dolphins and other mammals, golf balls and footballs, leap out of the screen and into your living room. There are also plenty of 3D games planned, including Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5.

Should be good, might be rubbish...we'll have to wait and see.

Now all I need to do is persuade the misses that a new 3D TV is an absolute necessity and not a luxury.
