High Voltage Software is hoping that its new first person shooter will prove that Wii isn't just a casual game's console, but that it can also be enjoyed by the hardcore gamer.

The brand new Quantum 3 Game Engine, which has been designed specifically for Wii, will be utilised and the developer claims that it will help to provide some of the most stunning visuals seen on the console to date.

As well as a conspiracy-riddled single player campaign that will involve aliens and en extensive arsenal of weapons, The Conduit will also feature an online multiplayer mode.

As Secret Service Agent Ford, you must learn to master each of these weapons as well as the special "All Seeing Eye" device to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and unravel the game's mysteries.

"Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics," said Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software. "With The Conduit, we intend to prove that theory wrong by providing gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced."

Graphically, the game will feature dynamic environment mapping, interactive water with real-time reflection, and four-stage texture composition including gloss, diffuse, and bump mapping.

It sounds like it could be a great game, but a word of warning. High Voltage Software was the team behind the dreadful 50 Cent Bulletproof and one of my all-time worst games, Charlie & The Chocalate Factory. Still,it's going to be interesting to see whether this new engine can deliver the goods.

The Conduit is scheduled for release in Q1 2009 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.
