Great design
Many of the puzzles we encountered did take quite a bit of thought to solve, as well as occasions where we relied on pure guess work to combine items. At times we were frustrated at the obscurity of such dilemmas, but like any past game in the genre, it’s the challenge and the reward of working out these tricky puzzles that make the game so addictive.
Movement is carried out in a typical point and click style by highlighting a position on the screen in which you want to move. The inventory, in which you’ll spend plenty of time switching to, is hidden at the top of the screen and only appears when you hover over it. Ultimately, this means that you can play Runaway 2 without ever touching the keyboard. The inventory is extremely easy to use and once you click on an item the menu closes and brings you back to the screen where you can combine your object with relevant items within the location.
Click for larger imageThe game is heavy in dialogue and interacting with characters often brings up a whole list of questions that can be asked of the NPCs, often leading to extensive sub-texts. The heavy dialogue is contrasted by the abundance of humour which is demonstrated fairly often within character interactions or, as mentioned previously, if you attempt to combine an item with something that is totally irrelevant.
Click for larger imageRunaway 2: The Dream of The Turtle has a creative storyline, which has made us eager to discover more about the world. The detailed colourful comic book graphics, coupled with full motion videos adds weight to the gameplay and charms you into continuing on the long journey. The challenging puzzles ensure that you’ll be scratching your head and possibly searching for those online walkthroughs at an early point in the game, but once you do solve a challenge, you’ll be smacking your head with the palm of your hand at your own stupidity, whilst grinning like a Cheshire cat at the eccentricity and ingenuity of it all.
Runaway 2 is due for release on the 9th March from retailers and available as an online download.
