In conclusion
Sam doesn't hold back when he takes the fight online either, here the action is cranked all the way up to eleven and beyond. All the usual favourites are present and accounted for, team deathmatch, capture the flag and several flavours of co-op, many of which support up to sixteen players for maximum possible carnage. There are some brand new modes too like Beast Hunter, a mode where you compete to slay AI enemies as a team rather than just shooting at each other. It might sound like a fairly simple twist but it's a lot of fun and it's just one of several new modes that show Croteam is always thinking of new ways for us to blow things up. Finally, it has to be said even if you're not into more traditional arena deathmatches there's something very special about playing through the co-op campaign with up to fifteen other players at the same time. It's an experience unlike any other FPS I've played and well worth picking up the game for on it's own if you enjoyed previous installments in the series.Serious Sam HD:The Second Encounter hasn't reinvented the wheel then, but maybe a fresh lick of paint was all that was needed. By mixing classic gameplay with the kind of visuals it deserves and a low retail price Croteam have really outdone themselves, giving FPS fans a game that ignores any kind of realism in favour of pure sensory overload. The difficulty may be a little much for some early on as the seemingly endless hoards can be frustrating, even when playing on a medium difficulty setting. If you can stomach the learning curve though, it's seriously good fun.
