It's not all about fighting you know
Mage Knight Apocalypse isn’t all about fighting and there is plenty of treasure to pick up on the way. Unfortunately items don’t stack in your backpack, so if you pick up 5 health potions they will fill up 5 slots. This means that you’ll have to pick and choose wisely as to the items you wish to take on your journey, resulting in plenty of frustration as you fiddle about with your inventory rather than continue on the set quest. At one point we dropped a health potion by mistake and tried to pick it up, but it wouldn’t even let us; there are so many poor gameplay decisions made by the developers and glitches in the game that we’re not sure how it even passed the testing phase.
The "Mage Stone" system of forging and alchemy allows any item to be customised in literally hundreds of different ways creating tens of thousands possible unique items. Herbs and vials can be combined in the recipe screen, but there is no particular skill involved in creating these items, and one click will do the job. The fact that you can buy these recipes from one of the stores just means that the function is totally irrelevant.
The graphics in Mage Knight Apocalypse are possibly the highlight of an otherwise dull experience. There are plenty of details in the character design, nice textures in the environment and the cut-scenes are well-animated, but the story-line and the bland characters in the game lack any charm thanks to some dreadful voice-acting.
Mage Knight Apocalypse feels as though its been thrown together at the last minute with little thought. We don’t know what magic potions some people have been taking but we’ve seen one reviewer give this game an unbelievable rating of 80%. No way! Mage Knight Apocalypse will only appeal to those fans who love the Mage Knight universe, and even they will be disgusted.
Pros
Decent graphics
Levelling system is quite interesting
Cons
Poor controls
Poor camera
Poor A.I.
Too linear for an RPG
Only die-hard fans will find anything exciting about Mage Knight Apocalypse
