Conclusion and final thoughts

But despite all these negative points, there is something about Infernal that made me keep playing it far longer than I should have done. It’s the combination of simplistic, linear gameplay and fancy graphics that kept me going... which is odd as at times I found Infernal to be bloody infuriating. The fact that you die if you fall a few feet or hit water wound me up no end, especially as you could jump off a ladder from higher up and be fine, but walk off a ledge and you die.

The clipping is dodgy as hell too, with bullets able to pass through the edge of boxes and walls, enemies’ rifles appearing in the middle of the door they’re standing behind and even the main character falling through the floor of the world to spin around in infinity. Oh, and let’s not forget the damn ‘glue’ effect, as I’ve come to call it, where Lennox will get stuck to movable objects, such as lift floors or even a crate he’s jumped on.

The thing is, in a straight fire fight, Infernal is a lot of fun and can offer up a decent challenge. The problem is all that crap you have to put up with the get there... from being stuck to the floor or dying from a short fall through to enemies magically appearing from the room you’ve just cleared and a stupid implementation of the dark powers.

So in the end I’d have to say that this is one purely for shooter fans who really have nothing else better to do.

Pros
Look great
Erm...

Cons
Bugged
Generic stupid bad guys
Bland bosses
Uninspiring storyline
Dated gameplay
Terrible force linearity

Don’t try to look past the graphics or you’ll get upset
