The guys over at Engadget have had some useful hands-on time with Nokia’s latest and greatest Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The aim was to compare the quality of the Nokia Lumia 920 video recordings with the best its rivals can offer. What other smartphone would you choose to put it up against, head-to-head? The Engadget journalist built a special “high tech” side-by-sideometer out of his breakfast cereal packet, with no expense spared, for this iPhone 5 and Nokia Lumia 920 face off with image stabilisation test. The video speaks for itself, but I can tell you in a nutshell; walking around and videoing a grey day in Finland near Nokia HQ, the Lumia 920’s video stabilisation had a very positive impact on the video watchabilty. The side by side video comparison shows a much smoother looking video than what is offered by the rival Apple iPhone 5 recording system.
The Nokia Lumia 920 has both sensor and lens-based optical image stabilisation (OIS). According to the Engadget report the Apple iPhone 5 is a step up in quality from its predecessor, however by only implementing digital image stabilisation it is clearly trumped in this side-by-side contest.

Engadget has just updated its article with more tests comparing the Nokia Lumia 920 against the cream of the competition. This time the yet to be launched but highly anticipated Windows Phone 8 device is pitted against the Android based Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X smartphones.

A new report, just an hour ago on ITProPortal, points to a lesser known phone retailer (but apparently East Anglia’s largest independent mobile phone provider) accepting pre-orders of the Nokia Lumia 920 black version for £469.99 “unbranded, unlocked and with free delivery, with stock expected on 16 October.” This is roughly in line with a previous pricing estimate from WinFuture.De saying the Nokia Lumia 920 would be €600 Euros (£477) and the Lumia 820 priced at €450
