What’s Nextus for Nexus?

Google's Nexus S handset will ‘soon' be available in Vodafone shops across the world.

The first handset to come with the latest version of Android called Gingerbread, will also be available shortly in an exclusive white flavour.

The handset sports a 4-inch Contour Display Super Amoled screen, NFC technology and 1GHz Samsung application processor. It also boasts a 5MP camera and VGA front facing camera.

HEXUS first got a hands-on with the eagerly anticipated handset in December and noted that as well as being an exemplar of all things Android, the Nexus S, which is fairly similar to Samsung's Galaxy S, also serves as a public beta of the latest version of the operating system, as it gets the update before any others.

Previously available via Google and The Carphone Warehouse, the price of the PAYG handset was slashed from £549 to £430 just a week after its launch.

DJ Lee, executive VP and head of sales & marketing team at Samsung's mobile business, said: "Nexus S integrates Samsung's best-in-class hardware and technology with Android's stunning new features and user experiences. Nexus S enables users to enjoy the latest mobile technology and faster multimedia content with an intuitive user experience."

Shame it's not as good as the Nexus One then isn't it. More unlit soft keys which are hard to see in bright sunlight, no trackball (optical or physical) and it randomly reboots all the time on standard firmware. Nice screen though! :)
