ASUS Introduces New Motherboard Supporting AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor and VIA K8T800 Chipset

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - 25th September, 2003 - ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS), the worldwide leader of motherboards, today introduced the K8V Deluxe motherboard supporting the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor and VIA's latest K8T800 chipset. Also incorporated on the K8V Deluxe are the advanced scalable HyperTransport(tm) technology, Serial ATA and RAID functions, exclusive Wi-Fi slot, AGP 8x graphics technology, IEEE 1394 high-speed interface, S/PDIF digital audio, integrated Gigabit LAN support and more.

The K8V Deluxe is built for the AMD Athlon 64 processor with AMD64 architecture, delivering native 32- and 64-bit computing. The AMD64 architecture extends the industry-standard x86 instruction set, providing a dramatic leap forward in compatibility as well as performance. With its quality design, the K8V Deluxe is the world's first motherboard validated by AMD's stringent tests for the Athlon 64 platform.

Overclockability is a key feature of the K8V Deluxe. Besides the ability to adjust CPU host frequency from 200MHz to 300MHz, the Vcore is also tweakable. In addition, with a special design that allows system chipset voltage to be adjusted, the K8V Deluxe improves stability during overclocking.

The K8V Deluxe is now ready for shipments. A 3-in-1 bundled edition is also available to enable users to enjoy the power of AMD Athlon 64 processing right out of the box. The bundled edition includes the ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor and Thermaltake Venus 10 cooler.

Scalable HyperTransport(tm) Technology
HyperTransport technology is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase the communication speed between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment allowing up to 48 times faster data transfer than some of today's leading technologies.

Serial ATA and RAID Functions
The Promise 20378 RAID controller incorporated one parallel and two Serial ATA connectors to enable RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1 functions while the VT8237 RAID controller provides another two Serial ATA connectors for RAID 0 and RAID 1 functions. The K8V Deluxe is the ideal solution to enhance hard disk performance and data back up protection without the cost of add-on cards.

Exclusive Wi-Fi Slot
The Wi-Fi slot, based on the 802.11b standard, is specifically designed for the ASUS WiFi-b WLAN card to set up an environment for home wireless LAN. The ASUS WiFi-b WLAN card bundles the exclusive Software AP (access point) to save the extra cost of an actual AP. In addition, the card comes with user-friendly utilities and applications that allow quick connection to notebooks, PDAs and other WLAN peripherals. The exclusive slot also supports the 802.11g standard for future upgrades.

Other cutting-edge features include IEEE 1394 for high-speed interface. This standard is especially effective for transferring large data files from digital audio/video devices such as digital TVs and digital cameras. With S/PDIF digital audio support, the K8V Deluxe delivers great sound performance. Furthermore, with onboard Gigabit LAN and 8 USB 2.0 ports, it is a convenient solution for networking and fast peripheral connection.

When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open the case to clear CMOS data. Restart the system and the BIOS will return to previous settings, allowing users to easily tune CPU settings again.

It allows users to restore BIOS data from a floppy diskette even when BIOS code and data are corrupted during an upgrade or invaded by a virus. Unlike any other competing products, ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an additional ROM.
