VIA Introduces Range of Devices Enabling PC Connectivity to the Latest Flat Panel Display Technologies

VIA launches LVDS and TMDS transmitter technologies to enable fast, accurate, and low power transfer of digital video content in next generation devices

Taipei, Taiwan, 24 October 2002 - VIA Technologies, Inc., a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced a series of new display interconnect products, the VIA VT1631 LVDS Transmitter, the VIA VT1632 TMDS Transmitter, and the VIA VT1633 TMDS Transmitter with HDCP.

With the growth of devices such as digital satellite systems, HDTV, DVD players, camcorders and cameras, combined with applications like games, web content, PC graphics, etc., consumers are demanding higher quality methods to transfer video and images for electronic devices. While legacy solutions are still widely used, noise generation, power consumption, and noise immunity make them less than perfect solutions.

VIA has designed video transmitters based on the two established technologies for digital interfaces: Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), and Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS). Both of these technologies improve the amount and quality of video data that can be transferred between devices enabling higher resolutions, lower power requirements, and universal connectivity.

“With new display technologies like flat panel monitors becoming so popular with consumers, it is important that we provide the latest solutions to connect with these devices,” commented Paul Hsu, Executive Assistant to the President, and head of the VIA Video Division. “With today’s product releases, VIA is positioned to be at the forefront of these technologies as they are more widely integrated into the PC platform.”

Boasting some of the most advanced specs in their class, the VIA VT1631, VT1632, and VT1633 all offer low power, compact, high performance designs. Rounding out a complete range of video solutions such as TV-out devices, VIA is ensuring maximum flexibility for OEMs and systems integrators looking for easy to integrate video solutions.

About the VIA VT1631 LVDS Transmitter

Designed to support pixel data transmissions from a Host to a Flat Panel Display ranging from VGA to UXGA resolutions, the VIA VT1631 complies with the Open LDI Specification for Digital Display Interfaces. Supporting data speeds up to 592Mbytes/sec on each LVDS line for a aggregate throughput rate of 4.76Gbps, the VIA VT1631 has a narrow bus to reduce cable size and cost, and comes in a TQFP-100 Thin Quad Flat package, enabling applications such as connections to flat panel displays in notebook computers.
