PRESS RELEASE
Thanks to the new iPad "Virtual History - Last Supper" application, developed by Applix for Mondadori, users can enter Leonardo's masterpiece, discover its secrets, cross the boundaries of the painting and sit next to the apostles
27th May 2011 - Applix, an independent Italian company focused on developing apps for all mobile devices from smartphones to latest portable tablets, enables anyone who wants to discover Last Supper's secrets to go through Leonardo's masterpiece with an innovative app: "Virtual History - Last Supper" the application created by Applix for Arnoldo Mondadori Editore.
"Virtual History - Last Supper" exploits Applix's patent pending Bubble Viewer technology already used for "Virtual history - Rome" and defined at the time as "amazing" by Steve Jobs in his iPad2 presentation speech.
Available on the App Store, "Virtual History - Last Supper" enables users to cross the boundaries of the painting, go across the table to the apostles and go into the room to view the landscape in the background. User can sit next to the apostles, look at the expression on their faces and feel like a character.
This sets a new standard in the relationship with arts; thanks to advanced technologies users can virtually touch the painting with their hand....
But Applix's application also offers more than this. Users can infact investigate Last Supper's secrets, compare different theories, including Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code". They can watch Leonardo's colours testing, his preparatory drawings and access in-depth information about the historical background.
As if in a time machine, the application brings users back to the fifteenth century, on the scaffold that Leonardo built to paint the Last Supper, looking at the white plaster and colours, living first hand through the creation of one of the most famous paintings in the world.
"We are really proud of this application. Thanks to this innovative app, everyone will be able to discover and go through one of the world's most famous paintings", comments Claudio Somazzi, founder and Chairman of Applix, "We were thrilled by this challenge. As we already did for our previous "Virtual History - Rome" app, we bring art and technology together to offer users a unique experience. We are excited about the result of our work, not only as developers but also as users. And we want to transfer the emotion we felt in developing this application to everyone".
