Bochum (Germany), 11 December 2015 - Adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP) currently dominate the Top 10 of prevented attacks against computer users, according to G DATA SecurityLabs. Such programs are usually installed without the user’s consent and can become a serious nuisance: browser add-ins or other unwanted additional programs are often very difficult to uninstall. CLEAN UP is a tool which is offered by G DATA to arm users against the most common types of adware and PUP and to help them remove those reliably. Users can now rid their systems of such programs with just a few clicks. G DATA CLEAN UP is available now on the G DATA website.
G DATA CLEAN UP is ready to use and does not require installing. Using a specialized technology, the tool detects nuisance Adware and potentially unwanted programs. Once detected, the user can decide whether to keep or to delete the program.
What is Adware?
Any program which is installed in the background without expressed consent by the user can be considered as adware. Adware is not harmful in itself, but it can collect data on user behavior to display customized adverts and to harvest information.
What are Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP)?
In addition to adware, there is also an unnamed number of additional program which also installs itself along with legitimate software. Those include browser tool bars or programs that claim to optimize system performance. Intrusive displaying of adverts as well as questionable promises are designed to lure the user into making a purchase. Most of times, though, the only purpose of this type of software is to trick users into spending money or to slow down the PC.
