Swiss cooling specialist ARCTIC has launched an innovative range of VGA coolers which don't neglect your graphics card's back side. The company's brainwave is said to have been inspired by the fact that as "any child can tell you" – heat rises. With this in mind and the fact that graphics cards installed in tower cases tend to have their fans facing downwards ARCTIC designed a range of VGA coolers with "Patented Back Side Cooler" technology.

ARCTIC informs us that the new Accelero range cools a VGA card's back side which helps keep the RAM and VRM temperatures in check. This offers better overclocking options to people eager to get the most performance from their GPUs. Also the new graphics card cooler designs are promised to offer easy installation, without glue and without marks left behind if you decide to remove/substitute the cooler later on. ARCTIC also promises that the Accelero cooling units provide high compatibility, quiet performance and a long service life - with an impressive 6 year warranty to back that up.

The new ARCTIC Accelero range includes four SKUs as follows:

Accelero Xtreme IV & Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X) – High-efficiency Cooling

  • Superior cooling performance – 300 Watts
  • 3 ultra quiet 92 mm PWM fans with low noise impeller
  • Patented fan holder eliminates all buzzing sounds

Accelero Twin Turbo III – Dual-Fan Cooling

  • Unmatched cooling performance – 250 Watts
  • 2 ultra quiet 92mm PWM fans with low noise impeller
  • Patented fan holder eliminates all buzzing sounds

Accelero Hybrid II-120 – Air & Liquid combined Cooling

  • Outstanding cooling performance - 320 Watts
  • Unparalleled performance with liquid cooling unit
  • Virtually silent

All the above ARCTIC cooling solutions are able/available to fit a wide range of graphics cards. Please check the Technical Data tab on the relevant links above to see if your card is catered for. As an example the Accelero Hybrid II-120 is compatible with Nvidia GeForce: GTX Titan (Black),780 (Ti), 770, 760, 750 (Ti), 680, 670, 660 (Ti), 650 (Ti boost), 580, 570, 560 (Ti,SE), 550 Ti, 480, 470, 465, 460(SE), GTS 450, 250, 240 (OEM) and AMD Radeon: R9 290(X), 270(X), R7 265, HD 8870, 7870(XT,GHz), 7850, 6970, 6950, 6870, 6850, 6790, 5870, 5850, 5830, 4890, 4870, 4850, 4830, 3870, 3850, 3690 cards.

We are told that these coolers are now available at the following prices from Arctic.ac and newegg.com: Accelero Xtreme IV & Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X) at USD$99.95 (EUR 74.95), Accelero Twin Turbo III at USD$79.95 (EUR 59.95), Accelero Hybrid II-120 at USD$129.95 (EUR 99.95).

great product just in case you break any of the factory built fans.
So essentially it's an after market VGA cooler with some heat sinks that you can glue on the back of the card ?
Hopefully they will be appearing in UK stores very soon. Had the Accelero Xtreme IV on pre-order for a good while now.

Quite pricy at £65 but as the fan is failing on my reference R9 290X and creating a terrible noise in the process it can't come soon enough!
I'd like to be able to buy the backside cooler on its own. Seems perfect to add that to a water-cooled graphics card for maximum performance. I would imagine it would be popular for people unwilling to remove the stock cooler or those that have a custom cooled graphics card like the DirectCU II from Asus or the Windforce from Gigabyte. If it does make a difference then it should be worth selling by itself.
I have an Arctic GPU cooler. Super happy with it.
