As readers will undoubtedly be aware, the IDF 2015 event is currently in full swing. Last night we covered the main news from Intel's keynote, which focussed upon computing personalisation, sensification, wearables and the IoT. However it's not all RealSense cameras and gadgets at IDF – we also had news about the groundbreaking Intel Optane SSD drives coming in 2016.
For PC enthusiasts there are a number of companies here showing off their new products to go with the latest 6th Generation Intel Core processors and Intel Z170 chipset motherboards. Emails from two of these companies just landed in my inbox; both Corsair and G.SKILL are demonstrating their newest, fastest DDR4 modules live at the IDF2015.
Corsair is asking IDF attendees to come by its booth to see it "break the DDR4 4000MHz barrier" by overclocking Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 modules. Simultaneously G.SKILL is running demos of its two ultra-fast DDR4 memory kits at DDR4 4266MHz 8GB (2x4GB) and DDR4 4133MHz 8GB (2x4GB).
G.SKILL says that its kits are "pushing dual channel DDR4 speed to new heights". The G.SKILL DDR4 4266MHz 8GB (2x4GB) kit is being demoed on the Intel Core i7-6700K processor and ASRock Z170 OC Formula overclocking motherboard. Meanwhile the G.SKILL DDR4 4133MHz kit is being demoed on the Intel Core i7-6700K CPU and ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero motherboard. These are claimed to offer the "fastest DDR4 memory speeds ever seen on live air-cooling demo systems".
Such impressive memory speeds were once the preserve of extreme overclockers with team polo shirts, matching baseball caps and outlandish liquid nitrogen cooling setups. When liquid nitrogen is deployed, G.SKILL has already shown it can break a plethora of world records. It achieved an overclock of its Ripjaws 4 DDR4 memory reaching the dizzy heights of 4795.8MHz earlier this month using the newly launched Intel Core i7-6700K processor and an ASRock Z170 OC Formula motherboard.
