Security quest
French ultility software giant Avanquest has been a bit quiet since it acquired UK software outfit GSP a year ago. Perhaps it was just gathering itself for a big push because it has launched two new products in the space of three days.
First came the Red PC Guardian Ezolution, a laptop lock that, due to its colour, is perhaps a tad prematurely being positioned as an ideal Christmas stocking filler. Kids these days have it pretty good; we were thankful for walnuts and satsumas when I were a lad, etc.
Avanquest's second launch addresses what it perceives as an unserviced market: automatic internet filtering for Macs. Net Nanny for Macs is designed to filter out "unwanted content" when browsing the web. The definition of unwanted depends entirely on who's doing the surfing, of course, but it's safe to assume this means porn and other cyber-filth.
"Use of Macs has risen 51 percent in the last year, creating an even greater demand to protect Mac users and their families from harmful and unwanted Internet content," said Chris Thompson, MD of Avanquest Solutions.
Apparently OS X Leopard already provides some level of horridness screening but Net Nanny for Mac will further protect Mac users from less savoury web content. Net Nanny for Mac and Red PC Guardian Ezolution are both yours for £29.95.
