The user interface sports a number of widget-based social networking applications, organised into a cute, colourful panel based navigation system which allows users to flick through a plethora of programs simultaneously, using touch screen technology.

The panels include something called the "MyZone page" which aggregates a user's missed calls, upcoming events, social networking streams, recently viewed media, news and favourite apps.

Users can update their social network status from a main panel and there is, of course, another panel for contacts and a useful little panel called "Zone Switcher" which allows users to mark their place in one program while they browse through another.

Intel hasn't yet been able to make much headway into the MID space with Atom, but the firm is hoping that next-generation Moorestown will have more luck going up against ARM in the battle for handheld mobile internet devices. And, if Moblin 2.1  is anything to go by, Intel is prepared to put up a good fight.
