Security software provider Avast! has refreshed its product range with the launch of three new solutions designed for home or business use.

The fifth-edition products, dubbed Free Antivirus, Internet Security and Pro Antivirus, are described by the Czech company as "not minor updates" and feature both a new user interface and a new scanning engine.

Avast! Free Antivirus, the company's flagship product, arrives as the successor to Avast Home Edition and provides free-of-charge protection to consumers who "use the internet for web browsing and email".

Further up the scale, Avast!'s chargeable solutions - Pro Antivirus and Internet Security - are available priced at £29.95 and £49.96, respectively, with one license allowing for use on up to three computers in a single household. The company's Pro version adds protection against suspicious websites and programs, whilst the range-topping Internet Security suite also offers a built-in firewall and SPAM filter.

Users running Avast Home Edition 4.8 should be prompted to update to Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 in the near future, but those wanting to make the jump as soon as possible can download the standalone installer at the new-look Avast! website.

I like Avast! and have been using it for a few years now. Never had any problems with it and you can't beat the price!

I used it after AVG failed me. I was quite pleased with it for some time. It caught a lot of malware and saved me quite a few times. I didn't like the interface though and switched to Microsoft Security Essentials when it was released. MSE and Avast are the only free AV programs I would recommend.
Was on Avast for ages - swapped to MSE and haven't looked back - it's lighter on my systems (suits netbooks far more) and completely hassle free.

Though I would agree Avast is good, perhaps you have never heard of Avira AntiVir?
NOD32 Hands down! even though its not free
