The £24.99 special price (inc VAT and delivery) being offered for ThinkFree Office 3 by online reseller CompuTrolley looks set to end in a few hours when it rises by £10.

So, if you fancy a copy of this three-part Java-based MS-Office-compatible suite, get in quick - the boxed version, with CD and quick-start guide, is currently around a fiver less than buying the $49.95 downloadable version from ThinkOffice's own site!

What you get for your money are three programs - one compatible with Word, one with Excel and one with Powerpoint - and the ability to create PDFs. Interestingly, the suite is said to support the reading and writing of the MSO XML file format used by Word and Excel.

Just as background, here's some more info about the suite (lifted from a press release, mind). Oh and in case you were wondering - no, we're not on a little earner, here - I wrote the story simply because the price looked to be very good and I found out that it was going up today.

You can download (70MB) and try it yourself (the trial is good for 30 days) but I'm not sure you'll be able to make a sensible evaluation before CompuTrolley increases its price.

I've used it, its much better than OO imo, but still not up there with MS office. However the price difference is staggering, and unlike OO, i find this is actually useable.
