ADATA says that the new SSD-based drive combines the slim, stainless, scratch-resistant steel chassis of the company’s award-winning DashDrive Elite HE720 portable hard drive, with the performance of ADATA’s market-proven NAND Flash storage solutions. The result is a very fast external drive which is also more resistant to knocks and drops than even its stainless steel clad predecessor.

The DashDrive Elite SE720 will initially only be made available in only 128GB capacity. This 8.9mm thick, 110g portable device connects to your computer using high speed USB 3.0 interface. In terms of data transfer speed, the SE720 “has read speeds up to 400 MB/sec, and write speeds of up to 300 MB/sec,” according to ADATA’s own figures. A bright blue LED lights-up to show power and data transfer status.

‘Windows To Go’ is supported by the SE720, which enables Windows Enterprise users to boot any computer directly from this portable storage device. ADATA has also set up the drive to offer a ‘one-touch backup’ and synchronisation solution via some free bundled software called called HDDtoGO. Another piece of free software, OStoGo, can help you create portable drive based Windows setup disks.

At the time of writing we have no pricing indication for the DashDrive Elite SE720 from ADATA or its distributors.

well, eventually all of us will end up having an external ssd in the near future… just not now because prices are too high but low capacity for ext ssd cards. However, the write and read speed are really fast and i like it but still i would want to have a large capacity at the price that the customers can afford also.

This is true.

external SSDs are useful for anyone who wants something portable, such as for storing a few HD movies and playing them directly from the drive.

But most of the market is in storing a few TB of junk you only use rarely, where speeds not really an issue. SSDs will take over from 2.5" externals long before larger standard drives.
