Final thoughts and rating

Corsair has entered the portable-storage market with an all-in-one device called the Voyager Air. Housing a 2.5in drive inside an enclosure with Ethernet, USB 3.0 and wireless support, paving the way for it being used as a network-attached box, external hard drive, and, primarily, on-the-go WiFi storage, the broad applicability makes the Voyager Air a fascinating product.

Working well enough in all three forms, this one-stop-shop solution is well-positioned as a multimedia hub for home and on the road. We like the simplicity of use, solid performance when wired via either Gigabit Ethernet or USB 3.0, and usefulness at streaming content when run through the built-in battery.

Shipping with plain Jane looks for the product and client interface, this is a commendable first-run entry into an emerging market. Writing out our wish list for a second-gen model, we'd like to see Corsair offer a user-installable hard drive and a slicker software interface, together with dual-band WiFi and the possibility of adding even more content by way of a USB port and/or SD card slot.

If we had one word to describe the nascent Corsair Voyager Air, it would be 'useful'. It's a single device that, while not perfect, is very handy for owners of mobile devices, especially non-storage-expandable Apple products, road warriors and anyone looking for a basic NAS. And if you happen to fit all three bills, so much the better.
