First pointed out by eagle-eyed Frenchman, François Beaufort, it has been revealed that work has begun on the Chromium project to bring Android's Google Now notification and search service to the desktop.
Evidence in the code modification logs suggests that creation of a framework has begun, to integrate Google Now's cards and notifications into Chrome, with the check-in stating "Show Google Now notifications in Chrome" pretty hard to ignore right? What's more is that logs go on to suggest that this service will work in tandem with Chrome's Desktop Notification system, enabling time-sensitive pop-ups to appear.

Google Now has been massively successful on Android, winning several magazine awards. The service provides context and time-sensitive notifications designed to help aid daily life, be it a birthday or meeting reminder or the timetable for your bus. As the service grows, so too do the number of 'cards', with third-party offerings expected to crop-up soon, accelerating the service's development.
Integrating Google Now into Chrome will help to increase the profile of the handy little service and take it beyond the world of smartphones, extending its usefulness, for example, to the emerging tablet hybrid market, which includes Windows 8 devices and Apple iPhone users, as a point of cross-over.
