AMD is partnering with Sanmina-SCI, a leading electronics contract manufacturer serving the fastest-growing segments of the global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) market, to provide servers based on the AMD Opteron processor. Sanmina-SCI plans to introduce a new designation of VSP systems, including two- and four-way barebones servers. These systems will feature advanced systems management for enterprise environments, redundant power and cooling and hot-swap storage and I/O.
"The Validated Server Program was a first for the industry, giving system builders, system integrators and value-added resellers and their customers quick and easy access to AMD64 technology in addition to enabling fast time-to-market and a competitive advantage," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation Products Group. "Sanmina-SCI's best-in-class designs and manufacturing expertise will further strengthen our VSP program, which was designed to include multiple manufacturing partners and offer the best choices to meet the needs and demands of our customers."
"Sanmina-SCI is pleased to be part of AMD's Validated Server Program," said Don Johnson, executive vice president of the enterprise computing and storage division at Sanmina-SCI. "Sanmina-SCI is the only EMS provider to offer enterprise-class servers and solutions to the systems builder community delivering power,
performance, manageability and reliability - all backed by world-class manufacturing and service and support."
Sanmina-SCI will offer a broad portfolio of servers, from enterprise-class servers to systems optimized for the value segment. In addition, Sanmina-SCI will provide system builders with the full array of benefits that enterprise and commercial customers demand, including manufacturing, service and technical support.
