Gearbox had a significant presence at PAX South in San Antonio over the weekend. The firm detailed several upcoming games including Homeworld Remastered and a number of Borderlands releases to the audience on Sunday.

The software company showed off new gameplay footage from its Homeworld Remastered Collection, a high definition re-release of the classic strategy franchise from 1999 that was first announced back in 2013. The title will not only contain newer variants of Homeworld and Homeworld 2, but also untouched versions of the original PC games as a free bonus, only modified for transition to modern PC systems with graphics, audio, difficulty levels and even bugs unchanged.

With the collection, Gearbox is launching a unified multiplayer system what will combine every aspect of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 into a single online mode. However, the multiplayer functionality will be in beta initially, allowing the mode to be shaped by fan feedback as development progresses. The Homeworld Remastered Collection is due to launch on Steam on 25 February for $34.99 or you can get 15 per cent off if you pre-order. We have embedded the reveal trailer below; it gives you an idea of the updated versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 in comparison to the originals.

Borderlands: the Handsome Collection

For fans of the Borderlands franchise, the PAX panel announced details about Borderlands: the Handsome Collection for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This collection will include Borderlands 2, Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel and all the downloadable content available for both of those games. A new 4-player split-screen co-op mode that is a first for the series will be included in the collection, which is due to launch on 24th March for $59.99.

Lady Hammerlock: The Baroness DLC

In addition, Gearbox revealed a new playable character for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in Lady Hammerlock: The Baroness DLC. The new expansion will be released by publisher 2K tomorrow whilst another mysterious story-based DLC pack is also teased, putting gamers inside the mind of Claptrap.

Borderlands 3

Not from PAX South but from a few hours earlier today – Gearbox has started to recruit developers for Borderlands 3 – the games firm is looking to hire the "next Borderlands team".

Battleborn

Finally Gearbox wanted to hype up Battleborn at PAX South. This is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) style game which Gearbox's Randy Pitchford described as "the future of the company… What we're betting on." The game takes the loot and guns fun Gearbox learned was successful from Borderlands and mixes them in with an extensive array of characters for online battles.

I love Homeworld, but I do not trust Gearbox and as such I will be waiting for at least a few days after release to gauge feedback from real fans of the series.

Please be good, please be good…..
I lost most faith in gearbox when they released Duke Nukem Forever which was a pile of poop however the real kicker was Aliens Colonial marines as that was the WORST game in history (imo and most others it seems), the fact is that they showed off the game at PAX or E3 cant remember and let people play it and it looked great with excellent graphics with the normal disclaimer that ‘subject to change’ however when it came to release all the graphics were totally different and resembled a very old game and you could see they simply built in extras for the gameshow and then took it all out, flat out lying!

They only care about borderlands IP which is fine but they shouldnt get other IP if they cant work on both… watching this one closely but will not be preordering it to avoid being burnt like aliens! I only preordered because the E3 demo was much better than the initial videos months before :(.
There is a gameplay video on IGN that I posted this morning

The game looks awesome and from what I've gathered gearbox actually have very little to do with the remaster. The devs involved are all the relic guys that worked on the original and they are “spending an irresponsible amount of time” on this remaster.

But to be honest I don't really care about the graphics so much. It could look just like a shined up HW2 for all I care as long as they get the mechanics right and don't try and ‘modernise’ it (read: Make it stupidly easy for the masses to the point of ruining it).
Classic games. Tried to play the first one again but after the second there was just something wrong with the controls so couldn't hack it. Pre-ordered :-)
Can't wait. Almost fancy splashing out for the limited edition with 12" Pride of Hiigara model. There's tons of limited edition stuff but this one just seems more worthy of that title being a true classic from the golden age of PC gaming.
