Bethesda has announced that the first patch/update for Fallout 4 will arrive next week. In its blog post the games developer also gushed about the amazing support from Fallout 4 fans and how Fallout 4 is not just the biggest Bethesda game ever, but among the industry's most successful ever.

Fallout 4 has indeed enjoyed an amazing amount of sales. At the end of last week it had already racked up approximately 12 million units worldwide (worth about $750 million). Looking at UK specific records it is one of just four IPs to have sold half a million units in a single week, reported MCV yesterday.

Bethesda is quite proud of the relatively trouble-free performance of its newly released game so far, "given the scale and complexity of the systems at work". The blog post concerning the update says that Fallout 4 "is our most robust and solid release ever". It puts this down to "our amazing QA staff who worked as hard as anyone to break the game so we could fix it during development." Yet Bethesda admits that its hundred testers could in no way replicate the testing that the millions of gamers are now putting Fallout 4 through. If you have stumbled across some glitches however, you may be happy to hear that "we're hard at work addressing the top issues".

The patch schedule and process will be roughly as follows:

  1. Next week the first beta patch will hit Steam, for PCs
  2. Then a full patch release will become available for PCs
  3. Consoles will start to receive updates
  4. After this initial patch, smaller updates will follow allowing Bethesda to make sure each fix works right without repercussions.

Hopefully if any HEXUS readers are experiencing Fallout 4 gaming wrinkles they will be addressed in the first patch, next week.

This is the 2nd game using this engine, and considering the Dev time that must have gone into F4, it's honestly not that suprising
