No Pay and play scheme for Nintendo's racer

We can all breathe a sigh of relief because, despite Nintendo announcing in February that some of its games would feature a 'Pay & Play' scheme, we can confirm that Mario Kart Wii will not be one of them!

The Mario Kart Wii packaging did kinda give the game away as there was no mention of a pricing scheme, but it's nice to have official competition from Nintendo of Germany’s head of consumer marketing and PR, Pascal Schmidt, who confirmed the news to German site Nexgam.de.

There's not long to wait now, Mario Kart Wii is due for release in Europe on April 11th!

Features include 16 new tracks in addition to 16 classic tracks from previous Mario Kart games, 12 player online play, online leaderboards and for the first time ever players will have the option of racing with karts or a brand new mode of transport – Bikes.

Super. If previous Mario Kart games are anything to go by, this'll be one of the most fun multiplayer experiences around - on any platform! :)
I am really looking forward to this. all the reviews say its great.

I just wish we didnt have to wait a century to get smash bros brawl
who cares?

wii online play is a big steaming pile of poopy smell.

being forced to enter long “friend codes” at both ends before playing with your mates? check. no voice comms (or any comms)? check.
Yep Nintendo were definately smoking crack the day they “designed” the Wii's online features … “I know, let's give everyone a random 16 character string so they'll only play against people they don't know.” A great way to bring people together and make life easier for their casual market. </sarcasm>

Note: I am a Wii owner but their online stuff really sucks.
I think nintendo where trying to make the system as safe as possible for kids playing.

It is a really bad system but I dont think nintendo had gone out of their way to annoy ppl.

It would be good if nintendo had the kid friendly version ala the friend code. Then they could do another online part for adults only without the need for the friend codes but with some way of confirming who the users are
