Ubisoft has announced a new game's label dubbed Play Zone, which will concentrate solely on party games for Wii. The first of those titles will be Sports Party, a series of mini-games aimed at entertaining the whole family.

Sport Play will feature 9 sport-themed mini-games, including badminton and croquet (is croquet even a sport?). The mini-games will be set on a tropical paradise and have three difficulty levels to choose from and multiplayer action. It goes without saying that it will take advatage of the Wii-mote's motion-sensing functionality.

What we would like to know is who decided on the bizzare list of 'sports' that are featured? The 9 mini-games, well 6 actually Ubisoft ( basketball will be split into three mini-games), will be lawn darts, badminton, croquet,volley-ball,mini-golf and...horse shoes (you what?).

Jumping on the casual game's band-wagon? You bet. It looks rubbish and it sounds even worse, but hey casual gaming is all the rage, right?

“With our new PLAY ZONE party titles, the Wii gamers who like to spend time with friends and family will have fun with the Wii through innovative and involving mini-games. The PLAY ZONE label will provide them with the best games to mingle and compete together in a fun and friendly atmosphere” said John Parkes, Ubisoft’s EMEA Marketing Director.

Sports Party will be available on July 11th 2008. We'll be washing our hair that day.

Being ironic again Mr Williamson? :)

Play PuzzleQuest and/or Peggle then see if you're so against casual games :p
I don't mind the casual games but the Wii is rife with them, how many ways to swing a wiimote round comes to mind.

So far my wife has bought Wii play (due to it coming with an extra controller) and Carnival Games. It feels like companies are overdoing the casual thing with the games instead of getting decent titles out there on the shelves
The good games look to finally be on their way now.

Alone in the dark Wii is looking good as is conduit and there are some other Adult games coming later this year/early next year.

Agreed there are too many of these crap games out atm. My girlfriend bougth me wii Carinal because it was 15 quid.
