Nintendo is planning to pilot a video distribution service in Japan for Wii in 2009. If successful the new channel may make its way to European shores before the end of the year.

Dentsu Inc has teamed up with Nintendo to bring a host of original video content to Wii created exclusively for the console. Currently, there's no word on what type of videos will be churned out, but its widely expected that cartoons will be the first type of media to make the launch, followed by other family-friendly content.

Whilst some videos will be able for free, Nintendo plan on introducing a pay-per-view scheme for certain videos.

The service is due to launch in Japan in the first quarter of 2009.
