It’s-a-me, Mario!
Nintendo is rolling out a special red edition of its popular Wii console to celebrate Super Mario Bros' 25th birthday.
UK fans will be able to get their hands on the limited edition console from October 26th ahead of its release in Japan on 11 November, according to business gaming site, MCV.
It was recently announced that the birthday console would be rolled out in Japan on the same date as the Wii's fabled new extra-sensitive controller with built-in Motion Plus functionality.
The UK version will reportedly come with the New Super Mario Bros game plus a preloaded version of the original Donkey Kong NES game and a red remote.
However Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition, will not be included in the console bundle but will hit the shops from 3 December- just in time for Christmas.
The game, for the Wii contains 4 original NES offerings: Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels all on one disk and is likely to be a hit with old-school console fans and a new generation too.
Also included in the pack is a booklet detailing the history of Mario plus audio CD containing catchy tracks from the past 25 years (for heady nostalgia or sheer annoyance).
There are also widespread rumours that Nintendo will launch a red birthday edition of the DSi XL too on 22 October in the UK and four days later in Japan. It is said to be embellished with old-school symbols from the game surrounding the camera.
The series has shifted an amazing 240m units across the globe in a quarter of a century.
