Conlcusion and final thoughts
Now you might be thinking that I’m a bit angry with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 and you’d be right. It’s not that it’s a bad game, far from it. It’s just that this is a full priced game that delivers nothing useably new and in fact gives you less. The removal of the Course Architect means that all you’ll really need to do to win is build your putting attribute to the first level then focus on power. You’ll be on every green within 2 shots and from then on you’ll always make par and frequently birdie the holes.Want proof? I’ve just won my tenth amateur tournament by 21 shots, finishing 14 under par for the round. Regardless of the fact I’ve played plenty of Tiger Woods PGA Tour, that’s not right. All the previous games gave me more of a challenge than that.
And playing through Tiger Woods PGA Tour I just can’t help but think of all the previous versions and how much better they are than this. Sure, each one had its flaws and whilst Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is certainly the most polished, if you own any of the previous games, just stick with them. Even the celebration animations of your golfer are the same as the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 04 version. Sure, there’s a few new ones but really these are irritating more than anything else… ever seen a golfer do a break-dance on a green? You will in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.
Click for larger imageHowever… and this is crucial, if you don’t own and Tiger Woods PGA Tour games then you should certainly give this a look. Yes, I know I’ve just finished telling you how disappointed I am with it but to be fair, that’s from the viewpoint of someone who’s played the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games before. If you’re a golf virgin there’s a lot here to recommend it. Even then, I’d advised you to hang onto your cash until you’ve read Steven’s Xbox 360 review of the same game as I reckon that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions offer up more than you’ll get on the PC.
That said if you don’t own a console and the PC is your only gaming machine, perhaps this is the version for you… But, a bit like the classic 1987 Two Ronnies Christmas Special being shown yet again on UKTV Gold, it’s just one repeat too many for me.
