Samsung's eagerly-awaited Galaxy S5 is now available for pre-order, so in anticipation of the new handset, we're asking you, the readers, to name the apps that every Android user should have.

Whether it's an outstanding news reader, a fitness companion, a banking app or something as trivial as a flappy bird, we want to know which apps (free or paid) are worth a download. We're looking for smartphone recommendations primarily, but tablet-optimised apps are also welcome.

There are more than a million to choose from, so let's cut through the clutter and hear your suggestions in the comments below.

My picks after going through what I've got installed:
Plume Twitter reader, far far better than the clunky official app.
Chrome, mainly for the super useful syncing
Google Keep, for notes and lists
BaconReader for reddit
Authenticator for 2 factor security…which your using right? :D
ES File Explorer, for when you need to get into the dirty parts of android.
Field Trip, if your out an about, this can provide some nice little tidbits
Goggles, just because its freaky how much it will recognise.
IMDb
RealCalc
Greenify
Advanced Task manager
Trickster Mod - Undervolting custom kernel
Xposed Installer - For mods
Poweramp - on HTC one I couldnt not live without it, on my xperia Z I much prefer walkman app
GSAM battery monitor- Nice stats
Some sort of a file manager App, I dont really mind :P ES file explorer is nice tho
Whatsapp
I dont like to play games, too much battery drain for me to get any enjoyment out of it :D (Yes I am a bettery life nut)
Chrome/AOSP Browser
If your a student of electronics (or maybe even physics) or you just like playing around with circuits all day, the ElectroDroid app comes highly recommended by me! Never let me down
Swiftkey is well worth it if you can get it on a sale.
Evernote I find pretty useful.
Citymapper is great if you live in Londonium.
Soundhound, great if you hear a tune and you want to know what it is.
Alpinequest great for topo maps, lots of free maps and works with OS maps if you have them.
