The Huawei Ascend P6 smartphone launched in London yesterday at Camden's Roundhouse with the Carphone Warehouse chairman, Sir Charles Dunstone, in attendance. At a little over 6mm thick the Ascend P6 will be the world’s thinnest smartphone. This 4.7-inch 720p screened device will be available from July with an RRP of £385, or £21pm on a contract. This is said to be a keen price for the metal and glass constructed Ascend P6, as Huawei seeks to become established as a consumer brand in Europe.
Huawei’s new smartphone will be available in three colours; black, white and baby pink. It will also appeal to the consumer who enjoys taking a ‘selfie’ with its special “instant facial beauty support” which helps eliminate wrinkles and blemishes, providing a more even skin tone. At the unveiling Huawei was also keen to talk up the low light abilities of its main camera but there seems to be no outstanding reason why it would be better than many competitor offerings in this respect.

Huawei has no plans to buy Nokia
In related news, a senior Huawei exec has issued a denial that his company is considering acquiring Nokia. This follows an FT story which quoted Huawei’s head of consumer business, Richard Yu, as saying “We are considering these sorts of acquisitions; maybe the combination has some synergies but depends on the willingness of Nokia. We are open-minded.”
A few hours ago Huawei’s vice president for external affairs, Bill Plummer, negated the above statement, telling Reuters that Huawei “has no plans to acquire Nokia” at this time. Nokia hasn’t commented on the subject. Nokia’s stock in the US rose four per cent following the previous news.
