PRESS RELEASE

Winner takes home £100k as prize for most innovative app

4th April, 2012 London, UK - Samsung Electronics today announced the winner of its Bada Developer Day UK Challenge. The high profile competition was launched at the bada 2.0 Developer Day in November last year with the aim of finding the most innovative initial local concept idea for an app, awarding the winner a cash prize of £100,000 and a runner-up prize of £50,000.

Marc Fortin has been named as the challenge winner for his innovative TurboFlyHD app. This virtual flying app was awarded the top prize thanks to its universal appeal, usability and the best application of bada 2.0. TurboFlyHD allows users to fly around a virtual race track in a specially designed aircraft. Upon completing each level, players can choose a new aircraft and track to vary their individual game experience. The aircraft is flown by simply tilting the phone from side to side and with its responsive controls.

Commenting on his success, Marc said:  "Having been based in the UK for some time, living and working, I jumped at the chance to enter this competition. I've always loved racing games which is why I decided to create a futuristic racing game that would have a real sense of speed and most importantly be really fun to play. Bada is a great operating platform and developing an app for the Wave III was easy, even with complicated graphics, sounds and 3D. I was over the moon when I heard I had won the UK Challenge! "

Keith O'Brien, Head of Content, Telecommunications & Network Division, Samsung UK and Ireland, who participated on the judging panel commented: "There was an exceptionally high standard of entries to this competition and Marc was chosen from 13 finalists, all of whom had submitted excellent ideas.  TurboFlyHD met all of the required criteria however, offering users a fun game that is simple to use, yet reassuringly difficult. What's more, TurboFlyHD is appealing to all users, children and adults alike. Samsung is committed to supporting developers who create apps for the bada platform, and the Bada Developer Day UK Challenge was a great way to showcase the country's most innovative developers."
