The Windows Home Server team is extremely happy to announce that a Release Candidate of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 is now available for public download and testing through Microsoft Connect, says Microsoft's Charlie Kindel.

PP1's primary goal is to eliminate the hazardous data-corruption bug. Microsoft had previously promised to "deliver a fix of the highest quality" and is confident in PP1's ability to eradicate the problem.

In addition to the much-needed bug fix, PP1 offers the following new features:

  • Support for PCs running Windows Vista x64 editions
  • Backup of home server Shared Folders
  • Easier, enhanced remote access capabilities
  • Better energy efficiency
  • Improved performance
  • Chinese and Japanese versions

Microsoft states that it won't ship a final release of PP1 until the community has validated its work. If you're interested in putting the release candidate through its paces, head on over to the Microsoft Connect website where you can download and start testing the update.

Good to know that its near done but i don't fancy testing it with my 3.2TB of data to be honest. So i think i'll wait till it is tested!
