DivX has today announced the launch of version 7 of its popular DivX software suite for Windows.

The release, available to download from divx.com, supports playback of full-HD H.264 videos with AAC audio and comes in two forms - a freeware version that allows playback of .divx, .avi and .mkv files, and a £13.99 DivX Pro edition that provides additional tools for creating or converting DivX videos.

Coinciding with the availability of the new software is the launch of the DivX Plus HD certification program. The certification will act as an identifier for hardware that supports the playback of DivX and DivX Plus media, as well as web-based .mkv videos. DivX expects Plus-certified devices to appear later this year.

I would hold off for a while before you download this. The DivX page shows DivX 7 and also has a link to download it but when you do grab it, the installer is for 6.8. Looks like they have spooned the link to the latest version 7 on their homepage.
H.264 / AAC encoding and decoding (using the .mkv container) has been around for a few years now so what has taken DivX so long to incorporate this? Is it even worth getting DivX, is it not just marketing ploy or have I completely missed something?
I'll stick to CCCP :)

Never liked DivX tbh.
Still not forgiven them for installing malwear (Gator i think) with every copy of DivX.
