Super Talent has been producing USB 3.0 storage devices for quite some time, but it's this week turning the heat up on its competitors by rolling out some of the cheapest SuperSpeed pen drives we've ever seen.
The Express Duo, pictured above, is making its way to retailers as we speak in 8GB and 16GB capacities and a recommended retail price of just $14 and $29, respectively. That's roughly half the price of Super Talent's previous cheapest USB 3.0 drives.
Moving things on from USB 2.0's theoretical maximum read speed of 32MB/s, the USB 3.0-based Express Duo will top out at around 67MB/s according to Super Talent's internal benchmarks.
It's far from being the quickest USB 3.0 drive you'll ever see, but it's hard to argue against a $14 drive that's backward compatible with USB 2.0 and over twice as quick as previous-generation models. Such is Super Talent's confidence in the drive that its chief operating office CH Lee claims "there's simply really no reason to buy a USB 2.0 flash drive anymore".
If you're thinking along the same lines, both the 8GB and 16GB Express Duo USB 3.0 models are up for pre-order from SCAN.co.uk* at a UK cost of £11.73 and £24.65, respectively.
