Final Thoughts and Rating
Kingston has made a logical move in introducing a cheaper, more affordable HyperX SSD. Building on the promise of the original, the refreshed HyperX 3K offers PC enthusiasts all of the same performance at a lower price point.
Reduced NAND endurance is a price that most home users will be happy to pay, but while the cost savings over the original drive are significant, Kingston's re-positioned 3K drives aren't as aggressive on price as they perhaps need to be. Right now, we see no obvious reason to spend £195 on a 240GB HyperX 3K when drives such as the 240GB SanDisk Extreme and the 256GB Crucial M4 are readily available for almost £50 less.
Bottom line: The 240GB HyperX 3K is a blazing fast SSD that will serve as a monumental upgrade to most systems, but in order to stand out from the crowd Kingston needs to shave a further few pounds off the asking price.
The Good
