Overtakes Xbox 360 install base
It isn't just Wii stock that Nintendo are struggling with this Christmas, the DS is also flying off their shelves. In the UK alone over 200,000 units were sold last week, with 185,000 being sold in the first week of December."The DS continues to perform exceptionally well, with some retailers voicing concerns about DS inventory going into the holiday," Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, told Reuters.
Fils-Aime also commented on sales of the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy, which sold 1.1 million copies in the US in November. "'Mario Galaxy' absolutely lived up to our expectations," he said. "Galaxy will have extremely long life and will have extremely large numbers throughout that entire life."
"Mark my words, look in 6 months and no one will have any remembrance that it 'only' did 1 million copies in its first month."
Despite Wii shortages, it has been revealed that Nintendo sold approximately 100,000 units in the UK last week.
