The Internet is rife with speculation that Nintendo may launch a new DS model, dubbed the "DS Extreme", with the big announcement being made at the E3 gaming conference this July.

The source of the prediction is Hirokazu Hamamura, president of games-magazine publisher Enterbrain, who publish the popular website, Famitsu and it's believed that the timing for a new model in 2008 fits in perfectly with the two-year gap that Nintendo left between launching the original DS in 2004 and the DS lite in 2006.

Nintendo hasn't denied the rumour, but has refused to comment on the existence of a re-designed hand-held.

Great another toy from Nintendo, that they probably won't be able to supply to the people who want them.
What else can they do with it? Larger screen and faster cpu maybe? A built in camera would be cool but won't happen as everyone would be scared of kids being abused via them (think: Brasseye special)..

The DSL is already a pretty much perfect portable gaming system, so without changing the form factor completely I can't really see what they can do.

Will be watching with interest though :)
built in browser would be nice

and a micro SD slot for music/movies too

with the price of flash memory it could rival the ipod nano

:) that would be a good addition, ditch pictochat and replace it with a browser (and ramp up the internal RAM so you don't need a external RAM pak

:):) thatys what i started using mine for when i made the wise descision of buying an M3Real, such improvements, since homebrew games are sometimes better than the full funded bretheren, and you can carry lots 'o games around with you on 1 card :) and thats got to be good.
thing is it wouldnt make much sense for them to add in built-in movie playin or a browser etc, as that means they can't sell you those products separately :P
