McDonalds and NTT Broadband Platform Inc, have today launched a data distribution service in Japan on the Nintendo DS, where the primary aim is to send advertisements to consumers.

According to Japan Today, the trial run will utilise the wireless capability of the DS, so that consumers can download software at specific locations which will allow them to view information on "sales campaigns and merchandise, news" and travel information.

The free of charge service will be tested in Tokyo at 21 Macdonald's outlets and at 20 stations on the Tsukuba Express Line connecting Akihabara Station and Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, and even on the trains themselves.
