Gamers complain about the DS lite

DS lite complaint



Complaints are surfacing on a number of Nintendo discussion forums regarding dead pixel problems on the DS lite. It's a small issue for most and simply a matter of taking it back to the shop to get it replaced if the problem does annoy you.

A dead pixel is a defective pixel that remains unlit, permanently lit, or a solid color on the DS lite screen. They are not repairable on an individual level, and can either be very noticeable and annoying, or barely visible. Most manufacturers have been improving their manufacturing processes to minimize dead pixels, but most still state that up to 10-30 dead pixels on a display are acceptable.

The same problem also arose on the DS as well as Sony's PSP. Although Nintendo haven't commented on the DS lite pixel issues, they did issue the following statement when problems on the DS surfaced:
With a small number of Nintendo DS screens, one or two dots on the screen may appear to be "stuck" on a particular color, such as white or red. This effect is caused when a particular pixel (the dots that make up the screen) is not working properly. Even with the high quality standards set by LCD manufacturers, you will find this situation is common in many LCD devices (PC monitors, televisions, cell phones, etc.), and is within LCD manufacturers' specifications.

It's important to understand that this issue will remain limited to the pixels you have already noticed. The problem will not get any worse and you should not expect to see the problem in any other areas of the screen. We suggest you use your system for a few weeks to determine whether this interferes with your enjoyment of game play. If, after using your system for awhile, you feel that this tiny dot is too distracting, the Nintendo DS does carry a one-year warranty. We are happy to inspect and, if necessary, fix your system at no charge within the warranty period.


For most people the pixel problems won't be an issue, but you can be rest assured that if you're not happy you can get a refund or replacement.

A bit of a pain in the arse, but it's actually nice to know that they are considering them faulty.

For the time being at least.
Dead pixels happen, take it back to shop, get a new one.
