There are numerous reports, on various gaming forums around the net, from disgruntled DS fans complaining about the durability of the DS Lite.

The Max Console forums are just one of the places where these complaints are being made, with forum members even posting pictures of the dodgy workmanship.

A growing number of Nintendo customers are noticing cracks on the left hand hinge of the console, close to the charging jack. Obviously, the cracks make no difference whatsoever to the functionality of the DS Lite, but nevertheless it's an unwelcome cosmetic flaw that's giving US consumers a headache.

The same customers are experiencing problems returning their faulty handhelds, with the main issue being that the warrantly doesn't cover damage inflicted by the customer. Other gamers report no problems in acquiring a speedy replacement.

Nintendo are now aware that the issue is widespread so, check your DS Lite and, if it has a crack, get on the phone to customer services and demand a replacement.
