After teasing that its first expansion pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would arrive for Xbox users later this month, developer Infinity Ward has now revealed that the add-on will cost 1,200 Microsoft Points (roughly £10).

Speaking to Microsoft's Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hyrb, Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling announced the asking price during a podcast and went on to reveal the contents of the downloadable content.

Dubbed the Stimulus Package, Modern Warfare 2's first expansion will feature five additional maps - three of which are entirely new, and two of which are ported from the first Modern Warfare title, Call of Duty 4.

Infinity Ward's new maps are described briefly as follows:

  • Bailout: a multi-level apartment complex
  • Storm: an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery
  • Salvage: a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars

Meanwhile, the two maps ported from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare are Crash and Overgrown. Both maps are said to be "reworked" with improved graphics, but feature no geographic changes.

Contrary to recent speculation, there is currently no indication of new weapons or perks being added to the game, but Infinity Ward is expected to shuffle the online multiplayer game modes, with Bowling hinting at an increase in Hardcore playlists.

The Stimulus Package will be available via Xbox Live Marketplace on March 30th and is expected to make its way to other platforms at a later date.

£10 jeez that is expensive, I paid 30 for the game alone and they're charging a 1/3 of that price for just 5 maps. Activison are just slowly alienating all of their gamers. I wonder if it will be the same price for PS3 and PC.

PS3 will be the same price, as for PC if they do that then I think they will suffer low sales.

Problem is its not even 5 maps. It's 3 new maps and 2 from Modern Warfare 1. So you are only getting three maps. Tbh I can easily just move back to CoD4 on the PC and play Bad Company 2 as the new online shooter for me, better squad based game for me, no run and gun one man army rubbish you see all the time on MW2.

Exactly :D BC2 has it's head screwed on. EA actually doing the customer a favour to :D Seems the roles have reversed with Activision and EA.
BC2 all the way now, not touched MW2 since!!!

Would love to sell my MW2 but it’s just not possible on PC :angst:
